Our Unseen God

2 Corinthians 5:7: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

1 John 3:2: Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

We must be wary of anyone who claims to have seen God. The effect of seeing Jesus will be that we shall be like Him. Believers shall be like Him in the future. We shall be like Him in ways that we cannot even imagine now. We shall be with Him forever and we shall never stop seeing Him again. When we see Him in that way we shall never sin again. If anyone claims to have seen Him I would like to ask them this question: Since you saw Him have you sinned? If you believe that you have seen Him I would ask you that same question. No one has ever seen Him so completely here on earth that they stopped sinning completely. Here on earth we are saddled with a sinful flesh that would die if it ever saw 100% of God as He is. Our finite and sinful minds and eyes cannot fully see or understand the infinite God.

Exodus 33:20: And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

Deuteronomy 4:12: And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.

1 Timothy 1:17: Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:16: Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

John 1:18: No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

John 6:46: Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.

1 John 4:12: No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

1 John 4:20: If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

On the occasions when men saw something of God, they did not see Him completely as He is. And even those occasions have been extremely rare. Moses saw the back-parts of God. There were christophanies in the Old Testament. There are types of Christ and of God throughout the Bible. There was the transfiguration seen by Peter, James and John. There were John*s visions of Christ recorded in the book of Revelation. Paul spoke of things that were not lawful for a man to utter. And of course, there were those few years when men saw Jesus in his physical body here on earth.

John 1:14: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 20:29: Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

We all perceive enough about Him that we ought to worship Him with our whole heart. None of those who saw any part of God chose to see what they saw. HE chose to reveal a little more of Himself to them than to the rest of us for HIS PURPOSES. Seeking more than He wants to reveal to us is evil.

Matthew 12:39: But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

Deuteronomy 29:29: The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
